Anne Loos
AUDIOVISUAL ARCHIVIST
ABOUT ME
I am an audiovisual archivist and recently earned my Masters of Science in Information Studies from University of Texas at Austin School of Information (iSchool). In my first year as an MSIS candidate, I volunteered at Texas State Library & Archives Commission (TSLAC) where I digitized 16mm film. The film handling experience I gained at TSLAC led to a summer internship at Lucasfilm, Ltd. (Walt Disney Studios). I spent three glorious summer months in the Post-Production Film Archive at Skywalker Ranch in Nicasio, CA, assisting with a collection move, gaining firsthand knowledge of the operations of a major corporate film studio, and handling a variety of of audiovisual formats.
In my second and final year at the iSchool, I continued digitizing film at TSLAC, and also became the Audiovisual Archives Intern at the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History. There, I had the joy of digitizing and describing 1/4"open reels, and video and audio tapes from collections such as White South Project archive and Molly Ivins papers. The Briscoe Center is also where I conducted my Capstone project, for which I developed a digitization selection plan for over 600 audiovisual materials in the Abbie Hoffman papers.

EXPERIENCE
Audiovisual Archives Intern
@ Dolph Briscoe Center for American History
Fall 2019 - Present

At the Briscoe Center's audiovisual archives, I conduct digitization, timed text, and metadata entry for 1/4-inch open reels, video tapes, and audio cassettes from collections such as Abbie Hoffman Papers, Molly Ivins Papers, and White South Project Archive. Additionally, I inspect video and audio tapes for signs of deterioration and damage to confirm viability for digitization. Often I will add leader, splice broken tape, and re-house or re-shell tape if its reel or shell is damaged in order to ensure long term preservation.
